【English】TORAIN®

TORAIN is long-lasting highly weatherproof outdoor wear developed with Toray International sewing technology and composed of durable fabrics with a hydrophbic membrane and high durability seam tape that results in a breathable, waterproof, and windproof solution for all-day comfort and protection.

TORAIN® is a garment concept created by Toray International, that brings together a unique combination of fabric, seam tape, and sewing technology with a focus on reducing the speed of hydrolysis.

The average waterproof and breathable wear fails in the face of hydrolysis and years-long durability.

It deteriorates and is discarded within just a few years due to embrittlement of the resin film used for waterproofing.

We set out to create a product that combats these issues, a product that can withstand a roughly 10 years of use.

That's where TORAIN® comes in.

Hydrolysis is a decomposition reaction that occurs when water, such as sweat, rain, or moisture in the air, acts on a compound. The resin material used for waterproof membranes and seam tapes by the average waterproof and breathable wear has water resistance but is easily hydrolyzed. When hydrolysis occurs, it becomes tattered and peels off or the surface becomes sticky.

The hydrolyzed compound decomposes, and the damage has been done.

However, TORAIN® addresses these issues by combining state-of-the-art technology to enable longer cycles of wear.

With long-lasting durability and proven resistance to hydrolysis, the unique hydrophobic porous membrance of TORAIN® provides a high degree of waterproof and breathable properties, allowing the product to be worn for longer periods of time.

The seam tapes use a highly durable hydrophobic non-porous membrane and adhesive to combat hydrolysis. The new specialized seam tapes we have developed for TORAIN® use a highly durable hydrophobic non-porous membrane and adhesive to combat hydrolysis.

The high weather resistance of TORAIN® allows garments to be used for longer than the average life cycle of general outdoor wear.

To verify the durability of TORAIN® fabric and seam tapes, we conducted a deterioration acceleration test, referred to as the "Jungle Test", to measure the deterioration of the resin membrane.

■ The sample is enclosed in a container with a high temperature (70℃) and high humidity (95%RH) to artificially accelerate the deterioration.

■ One week of the Jungle Test is equivalent to one year of wear. The test was conducted for 10 weeks.
